Agencies Join Forces to Create One Entity for Mental Health and Addictions Services

The successful collaboration between Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce, G & B House, and HopeGreyBruce Mental Health & Addictions Services in partnership with Grey Bruce Health Services has resulted in an Amalgamation Agreement, which was signed on January 31, 2018.

From the start, the priority has been to ensure the excellent services provided by all four organizations are easily accessible to all patients and families. Clients will better be able to access services that best fit their needs through one organization, rather than navigating four. The new organization will be called Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce: Mental Health and Addiction Services and will be operational on September 1, 2018.

Several outpatient programs operated through the Grey Bruce Health Services Owen Sound Hospital will be transferred to the new community provider. The transfer of services will reduce fragmentation between programs, reduce duplication of programming, improve consistency and timely access to care, simplify the navigation of services for clients, respond to the needs of patients with dual diagnosis, better serve newcomers, and improve health equity.

Services to be transferred to Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce: Mental Health and Addiction Services:
• Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT)
• Aftercare (Case Manager Program)
• Intensive Care Management (ICM)
• Prevention and Early Intervention Program for Psychosis (PEPP)
• Family Crisis Support Worker
• Dual Diagnosis Program
• Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Program
• Community Mental Health Teams (current) Hanover, Markdale, Southampton (new additions) Owen Sound, Wiarton
• Brief Counselling

Two programs will be transferred to GBHS:
• Urgent Response Team
• Primary Care Telemedicine Program

Expert staff will continue to deliver high-quality programming built on the strengths of all four existing organizations. To guide the new organization a new board consisting of members from all four partner agencies will be led by Mike Latimer, Al White, Sean McMurray, Kylie Nowak, Lynda Legge, Derek Anderson, Harry Marshall, and Paul Sinclair.

The amalgamation process was supported with funding by the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN).
