METHADONE MAINTENANCE TREATMENT COUNSELLOR

Full-time Position

New Directions is one of ten community-based mental health and addiction programs operated by HopeGreyBruce Mental Health and Addictions Services. The program is funded by the SW LHIN and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care to provide community-based addiction services for people affected by substance abuse and/or problem gambling. 

We are launching a new addiction service to work with people who are seeking or receiving methadone maintenance treatment for their dependence on opioids.  We are inviting applications for one full-time counsellor position, which is based in Owen Sound and is available immediately.  The position requires an individual who can accommodate some flexibility in work schedule, which may include some evening work.

The counsellor will partner with other human service agencies that work with the target population, including addiction services, primary and other health care and social services, with the goal of increasing and enhancing treatment options. Position duties include assessment and treatment planning, community treatment, case management and client advocacy. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

4-year Degree in Applied Health or Social Sciences with clinical concentration

Must obtain and maintain membership in Professional College / Association 

Knowledge of addiction theory and relevant best practice guidelines

Minimum 3 years recent and relevant clinical experience in community addiction treatment, including clinical work with clients with opioid addiction

Strong assessment and treatment skills, proficiency in motivational interviewing and CBT 

Clinical training and experience related to opioid addiction and concurrent disorders

Maturity, sound judgement, strong problem-solving and negotiation skills

Ability to work well with community and professional groups.

Excellent communication, organizational and relationship skills

Experience in rural service delivery would be an asset

Proficiency in the use of personal computers for word processing (Word), email and data entry

A good sense of humour, tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to work well under pressure

Must have a current Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening 

Must have a valid driver’s licence and the use of a personal vehicle

Requires 

RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER

(1 Part-time/Relief Position – Wiarton)

 

Our program is operated by HopeGreyBruce Mental Health and Addictions Services and is funded by the South West Local Health Integration Network and Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to provide housing and support for adults recovering from serious mental illness. The program provides support and skills training in three residential settings (two group homes and an apartment building) as well as outreach community support services. 

 

We are inviting applications for a part-time/relief Residential Support Worker position to provide support services for people who live in our group home in Wiarton. The position entails shift work and on-call requirements. It involves mild to moderate levels of physical activity, including the provision of practical assistance in household maintenance tasks and participation in various recreational activities. The worker will work an average of 3 days (22.5 hours) per week plus provide vacation leave cover-off for other staff for up to 5 weeks per year. The position is available as of March 31, 2013.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

3-year Diploma or Degree in applied health or social sciences (i.e. Social Work, Psychology, Nursing) with a focus on counselling and psychosocial rehabilitation

Minimum of three years recent clinical experience in adult community mental health services (supportive housing, case management or community psychiatric nursing)

Demonstrated assessment, counselling and teaching skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

Thorough understanding of mental illness and the needs of those with mental illness 

Familiarity with psychotropic medications and experience in assisting clients to manage their medical regimen

Maturity, sound judgement and ability to work well independently and as a team member 

Experience in teaching and training adults (Life Skills Coach certificate would be an asset)

A good sense of humour, tolerance for ambiguity and ability to work well under pressure

Must have a current Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening 

Must have a valid driver’s licence and the use of a personal vehicle
